A matched pair of vintage serving trays mare of horn in silver with Bakelite style horn shaped handles. The surfaces carry the characteristic translucency and warm variation of natural horn: no two pieces identical, the color shifting from amber to dark brown depending on the light and the angle. At 19 and 17 inches respectively, the trays have real presence on a table — functional in origin, sculptural in effect.
Horn has been used in decorative and functional objects across cultures for centuries, valued for its workability, warmth, and the way it ages. Trays of this type — inlaid, handled, made to be used — represent a particular tradition of craft in which the material is not incidental but central. These are objects that reward handling and improve with use.
